Indigenous heritage management

ANU recognises that all of its campuses are situated on land for which Indigenous people have been custodians for thousands of years. ANU acknowledges their living culture and the unique role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people play in Australia and at ANU. A wide range of Indigenous sites are located on University land (ranging from isolated finds, artefacts scatters, midden complexes and grinding grooves). The University has both a statutory and moral obligation to ensure that these sites are conserved and managed appropriately and in consultation with the Indigenous community. ANU consults with the Indigenous community in accordance with Ask First: a guide to respecting Indigenous heritage places and values.
